About Tag Cabo Sportfishing

Book now

Tag Cabo Sportfishing is a locally owned sportfishing charter company based in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. Founded by Arturo Chacón in 2009, we create private fishing experiences for anglers, families and groups visiting Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo, the East Cape, La Paz, Loreto, Magdalena Bay and the Sea of Cortez.

Our experiences range from inshore roosterfish trips and offshore marlin charters to luxury family outings and multi-day expeditions aboard fully crewed yachts.

We are not simply a booking company. We are anglers who spend time on the water, follow changing conditions, work closely with experienced local captains, and help every guest select the right boat, destination and fishing technique.

Built through real experience on the waters of Baja

Tag Cabo Sportfishing began with Arturo Chacón's passion for exploring the waters surrounding Cabo San Lucas and the Baja Peninsula. Since 2009, Arturo has spent thousands of hours fishing Cabo San Lucas, the East Cape, La Paz, Loreto, Magdalena Bay and the Sea of Cortez.

That firsthand experience built relationships with respected captains, crews, boat owners, tackle manufacturers, marine-technology companies, tournament organizers and conservation programs. Our local knowledge lets us plan trips around the factors that matter most:

  • Current fishing reports and recent catches
  • Seasonal fish movements
  • Water temperature and clarity
  • Bait concentrations and offshore conditions
  • Weather, wind and sea conditions
  • Each guest's experience, goals and preferred fishing style

Meet founder Arturo Chacón

Arturo Chacón, founder of Tag Cabo Sportfishing

Manuel Arturo Chacón Mejía, known professionally as Arturo Chacón, is the founder and owner of Tag Cabo Sportfishing and Cabo Sportfishing Magazine. He has worked in the Baja California Sur sportfishing industry since 2009 across charter operations, tournament fishing, marine electronics, tackle, yacht expeditions, boat brokerage and marine conservation.

He also serves as Secretario General y Vocal Estatal de Big Game for the Asociación de Pescadores Deportivos Sudcalifornianos, supporting the responsible development of sportfishing throughout Baja California Sur.

Arturo and the Tag Cabo team compete in major regional tournaments, including a Daily Tuna Jackpot victory with a 169-pound yellowfin during the 2024 Bisbee's East Cape Offshore Tournament.

Private Cabo fishing charters for every kind of angler

Every trip is planned around the guest — not around a standard package. We welcome experienced anglers pursuing trophy fish, families introducing their children to fishing, first-time visitors hoping to catch a marlin, and groups looking for a private luxury day on the water.

  • Inshore and nearshore fishing for roosterfish, snapper, grouper, jacks and sierra
  • Offshore fishing for striped, blue and black marlin
  • Yellowfin tuna, dorado, wahoo and sailfish trips
  • Light-tackle, popping, jigging and live-bait fishing
  • Guided surf, kayak and panga fishing
  • Tournament fishing support
  • Private family fishing charters
  • Luxury yacht fishing and cruising
  • Multi-day expeditions to Magdalena Bay, La Paz, Loreto and the Sea of Cortez

Local knowledge supported by modern fishing technology

Tag Cabo Sportfishing crew using modern marine electronics

Successful sportfishing requires more than driving to yesterday's spot. Our team studies recent catches, satellite imagery, sea-surface temperatures, currents, weather forecasts and bait activity before recommending a plan.

Depending on the vessel, our crews run modern SIMRAD navigation and sonar equipment, radar, satellite fishing maps, premium tackle, kite-fishing gear and specialized equipment for different species. Technology gathers the information — local experience decides how to use it.

Responsible sportfishing and marine conservation

The waters surrounding Baja California Sur are among Mexico's most valuable natural resources, and protecting them is part of our responsibility as anglers and operators.

We support responsible catch-and-release for billfish and other important sportfish, encourage the careful release of marlin, sailfish and roosterfish whenever possible, and support fish tagging, marine research and conservation education.
