Educate Yourself Before Booking a Cabo Fishing Charter
Before you charter a fishing trip, take a few minutes to understand what’s happening offshore right now. The more you know, the better decisions you’ll make about who to fish with, what kind of boat fits your goals, and which species are active this season. Here’s what you should know before stepping aboard.
What’s Biting in Los Cabos
In early November, striped marlin dominate offshore around the 95 and 1150 Banks, while yellowfin tuna schools feed under birds and porpoise near Gordo Banks and Vinorama. Dorado and wahoo are still present, especially along weed lines and current seams.
Knowing the seasonal target species helps you choose the right crew and tackle for your expectations — whether you want a marlin release, tuna action, or a dorado dinner for the resort chef.
Water & Conditions
Sea surface temperatures in both Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo hover between 78–82 °F, creating prime conditions for pelagic species. Mornings are calm and perfect for offshore runs, while light afternoon winds can bring a mild chop. Crews who study water temperature charts and chlorophyll levels (like we do) always have an edge when deciding which direction to run at sunrise.
Tactics & Techniques
Local captains use a blend of classic and modern methods:
- Dredge & teaser spreads for marlin—raising fish and pitching live baits with precision.
- Run-and-gun tuna chasing—casting poppers, metals, or skipping baits when birds start working.
- Light tackle for dorado and wahoo, often around floating debris or weed patches.
An experienced crew not only knows the technique but reads the ocean — current lines, bait movement, and bird behavior — to maximize your odds of a trophy catch.
Where We’re Fishing This Week
- Cabo San Lucas side: 95 Spot, 1150 Bank, and Golden Gate areas where billfish and tuna are working temperature breaks.
- San José del Cabo side: Gordo Banks, San Luis, and Iman Bank for yellowfin tuna and dorado.
Choosing between the Pacific and Sea of Cortez sides depends on the bite, water clarity, and how adventurous you want your day to be — both sides deliver world-class fishing this time of year.
