6 Things You Should Ask Before You Book a Fishing Trip

Booking a fishing trip in Cabo can be overwhelming when you have many options to choose from. There’s a lot of questions that might pop in your head. From finding yacht rentals in Cabo to deciding the duration of your trip. Knowing answers to these questions can help you plan the ideal fishing trip on the best yacht charter in Cabo San Lucas.

Here’s a list of questions you should ask before you book a fishing trip here!

Type of fishing

Our fishing trip depends largely on the type of fishing you want to do. Are you looking to do inshore fishing or offshore fishing?  Do you want to catch one of the Marlin species or are you aiming to catch a Sierra Mackerel? The type of fish you want to catch also depends on how deep in to the sea you are.

If you’re fishing inshore, then you’ll be nearer to the coast catching a Roosterfish or a Jack Crevalle. But if you’re deeper in the sea, you’re more likely to catch what Cabo is famous for, a Striped Marlin.  If you’re planning to take on Cabo’s offshore waters, then look out for the best deep-sea fishing spots.

Number of people

Your choice of fishing charters in Cabo depends on the number of anglers you’re taking. Before you book a yacht charter, you must decide how many people will be onboard to hook and reel in your catch.

If you’re planning a trip with 10 anglers, and looking to kick back after a catch, the 45ft Cabo Flybridge is a great option to check. Tag Cabo Sportfishing offers an entire fishing fleet for you to choose from.

Budget

Once you’ve got the number of anglers down, it’s time to take a look at your budget. You can always rent a boat and man it yourself or choose to rent a yacht charter with a captain and crew. Fishing packages in Mexico also depend on the size of boat you choose and the duration of your fishing trip. Determine your budget to narrow down yacht options to choose from.

Duration of your trip

Now, have you made more plans on the day of your fishing trip? Then you must also decide the duration of your fishing trip to get back in time.

If you’re looking to ride deeper in the sea, then you’ll have to commit a longer duration between 8 to 12 hours.

To have a smooth and calculated trip, consider the amount of time you want to spend out on the sea before booking a yacht.

Facilities

To book a fishing trip, you need to lock down your sea-ride. But before you select your yacht charter, make sure to check it’s packed with all the amenities you’ll be needing. Will you be needing a large storage space to keep your gear and store your catch? Is the boat equipped with medical supplies?

A luxury yacht charter from Tag Cabo Sportfishing will be equipped with a private chef, professional fishing gear, electronic navigation and more.

Yellowfin tunas in Cabo San Lucas

The first thing we do is get all of our gear ready the day before like helium balloon, juming fish, binoculars, live bait and our secret lures.

Then in the morning of the charter, before we get out of the marina we look at our water temperatures and chlorophyll so that we can make a decision base science.

Once we look at out apps for wind, water temperature and chlorophyll we get the numbers on our gps so that we can head that way.

Once we get close to the target area we start looking out of our binoculars to find birds and dolphins.

Once we find them we get to them as soon as possible and depending on how they are behaving we ether get the kite, parachute, lures or bait out into the water to attract the tunas.

If we go by the dolphins a few time and we don’t see anything in our sonar, we move on and start looking into our binoculars again to find another big school of dolphins that can guide us the the yellowfin tunas.

Best Spots for Deep Sea Fishing

Best Spots for Deep Sea Fishing

Fishing as a recreational activity is different from commercial or subsistence fishing, which is done for income or survival.  Throughout history, deep-sea fishing has been an economically and culturally significant activity in the United States. It emerged from the Native Americans’ fishing practices combined with those of later immigrants of the USA.

According to a2016 report by Fisheries Economics of the United States, recreational fishing in the US generated $68 billion in sales, of which it contributed $39 billion to the country’s GDP. Various fishing charters in the United States have successfully provided fishing equipment and guidelines to Americans to make the most out of their deep-sea fishing experience.

Cabo, San Lucas, has some well-known fishing spots. At Tag Cabo Sportfishing, we offer one of the best nautical rides to ensure an enjoyable deep-sea fishing experience for you. Contact us today for one of the best Cabo fishing charters.

Here are some of the best fishing spots in Cabo that we highly recommend. We hope you will include these in your fishing plans.

Golden Gate Bank

The Golden Gate Bank is one of the most notable spots for deep-sea fishing. It runs from 15 miles north from the San Jamies Bank.

The Golden Gate Bank is highly attractive due to its warm waters. The water temperature allows you to catch all sorts of fish, including Black Seabass, Blue Marlin, Dorado, and Yellowfin. The Golden Gate currants have these fish throughout the year.

However, we prefer fishing during early spring or winter in this area. This time of the year offers the fishermen a chance to catch the rare striped marlin.

Finger Bank

If you are up for a challenge, fishing at the Finger Bank is the perfect deep-sea fishing spot for you. The currents of this bank are warm and have striped marlin during winters. Catching the marlin from the Finger Bank can be a hurdle due to its spectacular and agile speed.

However, people have successfully been able to catch up to 35 billfish in a single day at the Finger Bank.

At Tag Cabo Sportfishing, we offer ideal Cabo fishing packages for you and your family to relish. Our fishing gear will fulfill all your fishing needs. You can also charter a 38’ Albemarle from us to have a supreme fishing expedition. Know more about our extraordinary yacht rental in Cabo San Lucas here.

Santa Maria Canyon

Debunking 5 Myths about Fly Fishing

Debunking 5 Myths about Fly Fishing

Fly fishing is immensely popular among thousands of anglers around the world. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out on a great fishing experience.

However, every popular activity that has a loyal following deals with myths. Fishing involves a little guessing and superstition, but the myths associated with fly fishing come in the way of you mastering the technique. The biggest myth of all is that fly fishing is difficult, but if it were, you wouldn’t see kids yelling “ten or two,” with a fly rod in their hands.

So if you’re interested in fly fishing but are confused by the myths that surround the sport, we’ve debunked the five most popular ones here:

Myth# 1: Big Flies Are Required To Catch Big Fish

Totally false! Anglers speak with the conviction of a preacher when they utter these words. Whether you fish in salt or freshwater, the size of the fly rod has next to no bearing onthe size of the catch.

What catches a big fish is the right fly, at the right time, and the right speed.

Myth# 2: Fly Fishing Is Only For the Affluent

Every fishing technique can be as expensive as you like it to be. It’s imperative to invest in the right gear to yield good results, because let’s face it, a $20 casting rod won’t do you any good.

An excellent spinning rod usually comes with a lifetime warranty, which eliminates maintenance or repair expenses. So it’s best to invest now and save later.

Myth# 3: It’s a Male-Dominated Sport

It’s true that the commercials only show men casting lines in the water. But that’s just a stereotype, because women equally enjoy fly fishing and perform really well. You really can learn a lot from hardcore fisherwomen!

Myth# 4: It’s For the Elderly

Since fly fishing doesn’t involve too much physical movement, it’s wrongly perceived as a sport for the elderly. But fly fishing is an amazing and enjoyable activity for everyone who wants to re-acquaint themselves withocean life and return to the basics.

Myth# 5: More Fishes Mean More Expertise

In fly fishing, practice won’t make you perfect. Instead, it makes your skill permanent and hinders improvement. Therefore, instead of relying on the number of fish to determine your expertise, learn and explore different casting and fly-tying techniques to become a better angler.

6 Factors to Consider When Chartering a Luxury Yacht for Your Next Holiday

6 Factors to Consider When Chartering a Luxury Yacht for Your Next Holiday

Picture this: dropping the anchor off near an uninhabited island with no people in sight, except for those you traveled with. The sun’s setting and your group goes down for a quick swim in the ocean. After that, you sip on cocktails and enjoy the delicious food that was prepped by the gourmet chefs on-board. Pure heaven, right?

No one can put a price tag on the memories you make on a yachting experience in the brimming seawater. The possibilities for having fun are endless on a yacht charter, as it offers all the luxuries and amenities of a resort, with the unmatched comfort & privacy.

Here’s a useful checklist for you to use when chartering a luxury yacht.

1.   The Type of Yacht

The type of yacht is the number one thing you need to consider when chartering a vessel. You have to ensure that you and your guests or family has ample space to stay. Moreover, the size and type of yacht will also directly impact the cost and toy variety.

The four main types of yachts that are perfect for a holiday are the mega yacht, motor yacht, catamaran, and sailboat.

2.   Your Holiday Budget Appetite

If you don’t want to break the bank, consider everything from duration, type of yacht, guest count, amenities, incremental costs, and VAT. Planning your budget appetite helps you charter the perfect vessel and have the perfect trip.

The luxuriousness of the yacht charter is directly correlated with your budget. The more sugar you add, the sweeter it’ll be!

3.   Trip Duration & Destination

Unlike a cruise with a fixed schedule, a yacht charter is bespoke. Therefore, figure out the number of days you’ll spend on the ocean and communicate that with your charter service. This way, your charter experience will be hassle-free and well-planned.

There are no boundaries when it comes to choosing a destination for your yachting trip. Just keep immigration and local laws in mind and explore as much as you want! You can visit different ports, go scuba-diving or snorkeling, or relax on the open sea.

4.   Choose the Type of Crew You Want

Luxury yachts come with a trained crew, and it’s important to decide on the type of crew you want. Do you want an informal, professional, uniformed crew? You need to answer this question before you head out.

5.   Is the Charter Extendable?

Yachting is a profoundly satisfying and enjoyable experience. So you’ll feel like resting while at sea for more days than intended. Therefore, keep your options open by ensuring that there’s a way to extend the charter.

6.   Amenities & Adventure Add-ons

Decked with everything from multiple rooms, entertainment lounges, gourmet kitchen, and on-deck swimming pools, luxury yachts are the ultimate way to spend your holiday in style.

Depending on your preferences, you can look for chartering services that offer fishing games, deep-sea diving, and guided fishing tours in unexplored sea grounds.
